I realized, most of my previous entries are really serious. There's nothing to them that people would want to come back and read. If anyone still comes back here, please drop me a comment on what the direction of this blog should go. Thanks!

It's coming to the end of the year now, and as always, I miss home even more.

Clean and fact-based journalism

Dear MALAYSIAKINI,

Being a Malaysian studying abroad has opened my eyes to wonders of new and unbiased opinions which I never thought existed when in Malaysia. I have been living in a country where freedom of speech is well fought for, rallies (not riots) and other forms of public speaking be it to federal or provincial government are not frown upon, but encouraged, has made me realize how far behind we are in terms of "freedom of speech" and politics. At the University of Manitoba, we've just had our student union election, and for the past few years, all that has been fought for was tuition freeze this, tuition freeze that, but recently, the students have realized that there's so much more to being in a healthy university environment than having our fees subsidised by the federal government. Students are now fighting for how to school is ran administratively and also how the budget is allocated to various services provided by the school. Drawing a parallel to the current situation in the Malaysian politics, students here are realizing the bigger picture instead of having to listen what the student union has to say. They finally have their own opinions in terms of what is most important in governing a school. Malaysians too, have opened their eyes and have stepped above and about their comfort zone in voting against the flow to the point that voting for the opposition is with the flow now. Not to be ignorant or generalize or anything like that, but out of 10 people that I've talked to about the recent election, all 10 of them are happy that oppositions are having a much better say in the parliamant and in this country itself. Based on that, how could the ruling coalition still have majority? As I've said though, I don't wanna generalize and be an ignorant prick, but I honestly still sense a foul-play in terms of how the election is ran.

I'm not so much knowledgable when it comes to politics, but since young, I've been cultivated in a family where opinions matter. And being in Canada has reinforced that ideology that opinions and to think critically is a must to survive in this world. My dad had a subscription to "TheStar" and I remember whenever an election came around, there would always be unknown "Datuk"s who are donating a certain amount of money to a certain charity or a certain family. I would just flip through the papers and other than the crimes and the murders in the papers, all I saw was that. And I tried looking for an article on what does the opposition has to say about this, and nothing prevails. All over the newspaper was news about the BN coalition. See, to have the government own every aspect of the mainstream media is just wrong. Journalism is about exploring and investigating facts about a certain topic. And to have the papers listen and agree with everything the government says is just telling us that the government is always right. It challenges every definition in the dictionary that is related to journalism and newspaper. We have a student ran newspaper at the university I go to, and whenever I open to read it, what it does is challenge and question every decision the student union has made. It lets the students think and draw opinions based on facts and figures. Not on what the governments wants you to think.

To summarize this long winded letter, I'd like to thank Malaysiakini for giving us this oppurtunity to let Malaysians draw their own conclusions and to think critically instead of nodding to every word the Prime Minister says. If asked what is "1 plus 1", we should really answer why are we asked such a simple question instead of giving "2" as the answer within seconds.

Kudos Malaysiakini.

Applebottom jeans, boots with the furrrrrr....

I never know what to write on this thing. It seems like everything I write turns out to be shite after re-reading it. But whatevs, I'm bored, so I'm gonna indulge in this shite-ness.

So yes, it's 1:20 in the afternoon and I'm tired as hell. Playing poker on facebook, with no music playing in the background, cos the fan on the laptop broke on me, and everytime I run more that 3 programs at the same time, it just shuts off without warning. It's so blardy annoying especially when I'm looking at porn... *ahem*, I mean reading Malaysiakini. Speaking of which! It's a new era for Malaysia this time around. Finally a semi-transparent General Election- I wouldn't say it's completely transparent as there're probably lots of shit happening in the background but nonetheless- saw the opposition parties acquiring 5 states out of it's usual 1 or 2 and not giving the main coalition its power to ammend the constitution during their leisure time. Enough on politics tho, don't wanna bore anyone out there.

Well, I'll be going home (hopefully) at the end of next month. But I don't think it's gonna be much fun this time around, cos all my good buddies are in Australia. Plus side tho, I get to spend more time with the gf and the family. I cannot wait at all, it's so exciting. It's more exciting than it was last year.

I am not getting any luck at this poker thing. It's rigged I tell ya. I had 10000++ chips about 2 hours ago, and now I have 40. How's that possible? The program might be racist, seeing that I have my picture on my facebook. To proof my theory right, I'm gonna change my picture to a white person's picture. Haha.

You know what I never understood? How one race can think that they're superior to the other. You must be really damn conceited to fall into that belief system. Take the "Ku Klux Klan" for example, how can they possibly claim that the whites are the most superior race in the world AND at the same time call themselves Christians? That is utter bullcrap and the most extreme oxymoron statement ever created. And to think people actually fall for this shit just shows how our society is so messed up, and segregation and discrimination is rampant and apparent, eventhough the leaders of the world think we're already liberated and that we're in the new-age. It's utter bull-shit. Man, I should start an Asian Supremecy cult and take over the world, considering we're the biggest population of race in this world. It'll be the biggest and largest clan in the world and all will bow to us.

Speaking of racism, just a couple of days ago, a european guy on facebook, can't remember where he's from exactly, said this to me "I'll grab my shoelace and cover your eyes with it." Though it's racist as hell, I laughed so hard. It's actually really funny I thought. People are getting more and more creative with this racism thing. Haha. And the other day, also on facebook, a black guy said to me "Americans are better than you because we nuked your ass back in 1942."
I just replied with 2 words, "Dumb Americans." and never got a reply from him.

Well, enough of bullshit for today, until next time..

It's been a pleasure
